Holidays in the city of Bordeaux
Since the time of the Romans the noble grape has been worshipped in the Bordeaux region and today there are no other places which are so obviously associated with quality wine. This is something which influences a large part of everyday life. Every street in the city is thronged with wine merchants and the wine chateaux, of which there are over 100, offer their visitors tastings. Wine therapy, a spa with grape extract, is said to be beneficial for the body and is offered at several of the hotels. The beautiful baroque buildings which were once erected in the city centre to conceal the slums make a great display.
Today Bordeaux is a modern city with historic charm, among other things it has what is perhaps the newest-looking trams Europe can offer. A walk along the River Garonne, or along the city’s pedestrianised streets and squares, constantly provides fresh discoveries. In the ”golden triangle”, where the most important shopping streets cross each other, an abundance of opportunities are on offer to taste the region’s cuisine, or just to have a coffee after bargain-hunting in the shops.
